Canada Connects Program
YMCA Canada Connects is a 1-1 matching program for newcomers to meet with volunteers. The program focuses on intercultural learning and creating meaningful relationships in the community. Program participants meet two hours per week for a minimum of six months in informal settings (coffee shops, community centers, public library, on Zoom, etc.). Volunteers support newcomers’ learning, access to resources and opportunities in their communities.
Eligibility:
For Newcomers (families or individuals):
· Permanent residents of Canada
· Must live in Halifax Regional Municipality
· A high beginner English language proficiency is preferred (CLB 4 and above)

Volunteering with Canada Connects:
For Volunteers:
· Permanent residents or Canadian citizens who are well established in the community
· Must be over 18 years old and fluent in English
· Participate in YMCA orientation and training
· Complete a Criminal/ Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry check
Volunteer if:
· You want to contribute to creating inclusive communities
· You are willing to share your knowledge and experience on the services offered in your community
· You are willing to know about other cultures
· You are willing to attend ongoing training
